I have FO3 and FO-NV which were installed on Win7 long before 'upgrading' from Win7 to Win10.
I am sill using the saves from Win7 as well.
Both FO3 and FO-NV run fine on Win10, but Bethesda game have more than their share of issues.
Both have had issues with Win7 as well. FO3 in particular.
No point informing Bethesda. If there were something in the game that they could fix, they wouldn't.
The game is too old.
- Have you also run Steams 'Verify integrity of game cache' tool ? Some games require this after upgrading
to Win10, and after the major Win10 updates.
- If you have not already. Deleting the Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini may help.
Fallout New Vegas Freezes
- If you are using the 4GB fix, don't. The game won't launch on Win10 with this .exe.
- I'm not using any Compatibility settings with FO-NV . FO3 does require Vista sp1 though.
- This game was not as big a problem as FO3, but does have it's ups and downs.
Last time I checked FO-NV it was crashing when I approached a certain dead body.
Today there was no issue with this, but the game crashes my machine when I exit - unless I
Alt-TAB out of the game and close it from the Taskbar.
- I don't know if my issue is due to 1607 or the recent driver update I did. If you are using the current driver
try an older one, such as 359.06, which would have been the driver I was using last time I checked FO-NV.
I rather doubt there is much, if any benefit using a driver newer than this with a 700 series card, especially
with the model you are using.
- For the most up to date fixes for all Bethesda games the Nexus Forums would be the best option.
[ EDIT: I just ran a test with my Intel HD 4600 graphics and the game does not crash the machine on exit,
so it looks like my current driver ( 372.70) does have an issue with the game.
Try using the Intel HD440 Integrated graphics on your machine.
If the game loads on Intel HD trying the older Nvidia driver may help . ]
[ EDIT: To prevent Windows from installing it's preferred driver when you reboot after uninstalling your
current driver, you need to use the Show/Hide tool in the article below to block automatic updating
of the Nvidia graphics drivers.

Just installed Fallout New Vegas.
After some time of game play the game just quit to Desktop without any error messages.Can someone point me directions on why this is happening and how can I fix it?
Running on Windows 7 32-bit, nVidia GTS250 MB.

The game is very buggy, make sure you have the latest patch installed (should happen automatically if Steam is not in offline mode). Also try to install the latest Nvidia driver.
But most likely you just have to wait for a new patch to fix some more of the numerous crashing bugs this game obviously has.

If you have a multi-core machine, you may want to try these instructions: http://www.pdsys.org/blog/post/2009/02/07/Fallout-3-VideoDisplay-Freezes-sound-keeps-going.aspx Ptb circuit after a buffer plan.
Please Note: Even though this was written with Fallout 3 in mind, it also works for Fallout New Vegas. Enjoy!
The game engine has some issues with processors that have more than 2 cores. You can force the game to only use two of them and it will stop the freezing. I haven't had it freeze once since I did this several days ago.
Open up the fallout.ini file in: My DocumentsMy GamesFallout3
(Note: In Fallout New Vegas, Most tweaks which would normally go in the Fallout.ini file in Fallout 3 actually need to be made in the Fallout_default.ini file found under the Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommonfallout new vegas directory in Fallout: New Vegas. This is because when the game is launched via Steam, it opens the launcher first, which overwrites your Fallout.ini file with the contents of the Fallout_default.ini file, along with your launcher settings. Make a backup of Fallout_default.ini, then edit it with a text editor.) (Source)
Find the line:
Fallout New Vegas Crashes On Loading Screen
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

From the PC Gaming Wiki's 'Fallout New Vegas - Game Crashes Randomly' article:

Random Crashes (Random Crashes that tell you FalloutNV.exe has stopped working.)
I have personally tried NV Stutter Remover and CASM. NV Stutter Remover modifies the game to be more 'stable' (more info on its New Vegas Nexus page here). CASM (Cipscis' Automatic Save Manager) allows for an incremental auto-save function specified by a time preset (can also be done manually through a hotkey), allowing you to load a savegame close to when FNV crashed. Fake Fullscreen Mode Windowed runs the game in windowed mode, which some report as helpful in preventing crashes (more info in its New Vegas Nexus page here).

HomeUncategorizedHow to Fix Fallout New Vegas Lock-ups and Crashes
Finally, the day had come and Fallout: New Vegas has been released. Unfortunately, just like it’s older brother, the Fallout New Vegas RPG is also affected by constant lock-ups and crashes and it appears that it is somewhat of a habit for the series and something we have to get used with. However, as always, I will try to find solutions and share them with you for all the Fallout New Vegas Lock-ups and Crashes.
Apparently, the crashes and freezes of the game come both on the console version as well as the PC version, with screen lock-ups and freezes being the major problem in Fallout New Vegas. When it comes to the PC version, we could try the fix that worked last year with the game (it’s the same engine):
If you have Asus Xsonar, Creative or Realtek sound cards and Fallout New Vegas crashes at start, you should just turn off the GX mode (for Xonar cards). For the others: This DS3D GX thing is part of Xonar’s drivers which is responsible for restoring EAX and multichannel surround sound. Similar to Creative’s Alchemy or Realtek’s 3D SoundBack. Try to disable them, or change the speaker config to stereo. Hopefully this works!
Also, if the game seems to freeze a lot, try tuning down the graphics: a lower resolution and antialiasing or/and anisotropic filtering off… these should stop Fallout New Vegas from freezing and locking up. However, how to stop the constant crashes – that is still a mystery. Hopefully Bethesda will quickly look into the problem and fix it, most likely via a patch. The fact is that Fallout: New Vegas is such a great game and it’s sad to see it plagued by issues.
If you managed to find a fix for the Fallout New Vegas lock-ups and crashes, please let us all know in the comment section below – this way, we’ll have a lot of happy gamers!
